Cutter Burnett is currently a senior in the Eastern New Mexico University Department of Music, where he sings tenor. He has just been accepted in the graduate voice program at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. He intends to attend there in the fall to pursue a Master's of Music in Vocal Performance. He plans to continue the study of voice, opera and art song.
He discusses his Eastern Experience:
"The best part about my experience at ENMU is that I have had so many wonderful opportunities in the music department to develop my skills as a singer. We have had incredible performers and composers from around the world come and perform with us, and I have been lucky enough to perform in five fully-staged productions, all of which I have held a principle role.
"I have three favorite instructors, all of which have completely changed my life. I would literally not be at ENMU if it was not for Dr. John Olsen and Mrs. Cheryl Pachak-Brooks; they convinced me to come back to school after a three-year hiatus ONE HOUR after meeting me. They are incredible. The third professor is Dr. Greg Gallagher, my voice teacher. This man has encouraged me to embrace my passion and artistry, creating an environment where I felt comfortable to take artistic risks and explore who I am as an artist. Dr. Gallagher tells every one of his students that they are an artist with a voice, that they have something to say and that people need to hear it. He encourages, comforts, mentors, teaches and pours himself into his students because he truly cares about them and wants to watch them succeed.
"My fondest memory at ENMU is from 2017 when the ENMU choirs went on tour in Paris and London. We had a free day in Paris, so I went to the Louvre with my two best friends, Jasmine and Devin. We walked around and literally got lost for two hours. We eventually found our way out and made our way to Sacré-Cœur cathedral, where we sat on the steps looking down onto the lawn, watching all of the Parisian street performers do their shows and street vendors lay out their goodies. Simply the most beautiful day I could ever have.
"My plans for the future are simple: I want to do music and create art, and I am thankful to all the faculty at ENMU!"
