The ENMU-Portales campus will be closed tomorrow (Friday, January 10, 2025) in an abundance of caution due to winter weather and hazardous road conditions. Essential personnel from the Department of Public Safety and the Physical Plant will be required to show up to work at regularly scheduled times unless otherwise directed by a supervisor. Please feel free to contact the Department of Public Safety at 575.562.2393 or 575.760.2945 with any questions, comments, or concerns you may have.

Department of Educational Studies

The Department of Educational Studies offers undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of education foundations, secondary education and special education, and graduate courses in the areas of counseling and education administration.

Undergraduate

If you are pursuing an undergraduate degree in education with majors in elementary and special education, you'll complete your special education requirements through courses taught by this department's faculty. If you are in an approved major seeking secondary teaching licensure, you'll want to choose the secondary education minor (endorsement area) available through this department. The coursework for the secondary education endorsement area is also used in large part by students in approved majors seeking K-12 teaching licensure. Undergraduate coursework for these programs is offered primarily on-campus, but a limited number of courses may be available at ENMU-Roswell or online as well.

Graduate

ENMU's Master of Education provides a major in education with emphases in education administration, secondary education, or school counseling. Our Master of Special Education provides a major in special education with emphases available in early childhood special education or general special education. Students who do not hold a teaching license or who desire additional licensure may pursue secondary or special education teaching licensure through the department's alternative licensure program.

New Mexico Administrative Licensure

The department also offers the Master of Arts in Counseling and the Master of Education in School Counseling majors. ENMU's graduate education programs are available entirely online, while our counseling programs include both on-campus and online course requirements.
