Admission Procedures

Admission to the graduate school does not ensure you admission to a particular graduate program, it only assures consideration by the program. Admission standards and program requirements vary by program. These requirements may be more rigorous than the general Graduate School application, so make sure to check your individual program's requirements. If you are an international student, be sure to view our international student requirements.

Admission Standards

Graduates of a regionally accredited college or university, or whose institution is recognized by the Commission on Recognition of Post-Secondary Accreditation (CORPA) may apply for admission to the Graduate School. The University reserves the right to select individuals for admission on the basis of merit to promote the best interests of the University and the society as a whole, and maximizing the potential for individual achievement.

Free Graduate School Application Process

To receive consideration for admission to the Graduate School, we encourage you to study the admission policies and procedures and supply everything required for the application in a timely manner. The submission of a complete application not only expedites the admission process, but ensures your graduate study will begin without delay.

Step 1: Graduate School Application

All persons (including graduates of Eastern New Mexico University) seeking admission to the Graduate School are required to submit a formal application for admission. You can apply to the graduate school online at no cost to you.

Step 2: Transcripts

As an institution of higher education, ENMU requires official copies of transcripts from previous institutions. Transcripts are required before ENMU can make an admissions decision on your file. If you are:

  • Alternative Licensure | submit all official transcripts from previous institutions
  • Communicative Disorders | submit all official transcripts through your CSDCAS account
  • Communicative Disorders Leveling | submit an official transcript from the institution who issued your bachelors degree
  • Degree Seeking | submit all official transcripts from previous institutions
  • Non-Degree Seeking | submit the official transcript from the institution who issued your bachelors degree

For studies outside the United States, please submit your official transcripts to a NACES-member organization for a course-by-course evaluation. This organization will then send your evaluated transcripts to ENMU.

Paper Copy – If you are sending your transcripts from other institutions directly to ENMU, mail to:

Eastern New Mexico University
Graduate School
ENMU Station 24 - 1500 S Ave K
Portales, NM 88130

Electronic Copy – If you are using third party transcript service that provides eTranscripts (such as Parchment, National Student Clearinghouse or eScrip-Safe for example), you can enter the recipient as [email protected].

Documents submitted to the University as a requirement for admission become a part of the Registrar’s official file. The University does not return, reissue, or certify copies of transcripts from other institutions.

Step 3: Program Specific Application Requirements

If you qualify for admission to the Graduate School, the Graduate School will forward your file to the graduate coordinator in the program for evaluation. Because admission into a particular program depends on special program requirements, additional information about you and your academic background may be required by the program's graduate coordinator. Such information may include, but is not limited to:

  • Letter of Application
  • Writing Sample
  • Letters of Recommendation
  • Writing proficiency exam
  • Qualifying or field exams
  • Teaching Licenses

As previously stated, different graduate programs have specific admission standards and program requirements which you must satisfy. Admission to the Graduate School does not entitle you admission to a graduate program; it only ensures consideration by the program. (See individual graduate program descriptions for specific requirements.)

You can also find more information about a program's application requirements by visiting the program's page.

All application materials should be sent to:

ENMU Station 24
1500 S Ave K

Materials may be submitted electronically to [email protected]

Admission Notification

After your admission materials are evaluated, you will receive a letter letting you know whether or not you were admitted. This Admission Letter is the only communication you'll receive concerning your application status. It will provide your student standing and will let you know if there are any conditions, limitations or restrictions from your program or the Graduate School. This letter also provides the date you can enroll.

Timely Completion of the Admission Process

Normally, you are admitted only after all application materials have been received in the Office of the Graduate School. Students are typically unable to register until the application is complete and an admission decision is made.

If you do not complete the application process within your first semester of enrollment, or if your undergraduate degree is from an unaccredited institution, you will not be able to enroll for graduate coursework at ENMU.
