Bio
I am a teacher by degree, trade and heart. I hold current New Mexico Teaching licenses in: Elementary Education, Special Education, Secondary Education (history) and Diagnostics.
I teach both undergraduate and graduate classes in person (in Portales and Roswell) and online.
Teaching is my passion and I am very lucky to wake up each morning and come to work with such great faculty and students!
Research Interests
My research centers around the needs of parents with children having special needs, co-teaching, mentorship, online teaching and effective diagnostics and diagnostic reports.

Bio
As an Associate Professor at ENMU, Dr. Petrone?s research interests include educational administration, teacher recruitment and retention, organizational change, leadership, and civics education. He previously served for 16 years in California and New York public schools, teaching social sciences and AVID, coaching football and track, advising yearbook, and later holding administrative roles as assistant principal, alternative education principal, and comprehensive high school principal.
His work in education was recognized through numerous honors, including being named a 2018 ACSA State Finalist for Secondary School Principal of the Year, ACSA Region IX Secondary School Principal of the Year, and ACSA Merced County Chapter Secondary School Principal of the Year. Additional recognitions include multiple California FFA Outstanding Public-School Administrator awards (2013?2018), the Drexel University Leadership Fellowship and Constantine Papadakis Public Service Fellowship (2010), and Gustine High School Teacher of the Year (2008).
Dr. Petrone holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Management (Drexel University), an M.A. in Educational Leadership and Administration (Chapman University), a B.A. in History and Political Science (Southampton College, LIU), and an A.A. from Orange Coast College. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he served six years as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist. Beyond academia, he engages in a unique summer hobby?catching, studying, and tagging sharks off the coast of Long Island with longtime friends who are now marine scientists.

Dr. Michael F. Shaughnessy received his Bachelor's degree from Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY, and his master's degree in counseling and guidance from Bank Street College of Education and his master's in School Psychology from the College of New Rochelle. He did his doctoral work at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln and has done post doctoral study at George Washington University in Head Injury and Brain Trauma and additional study at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas in multiple disabilities.
