The ENMU-Portales campus will be closed tomorrow (Friday, January 10, 2025) in an abundance of caution due to winter weather and hazardous road conditions. Essential personnel from the Department of Public Safety and the Physical Plant will be required to show up to work at regularly scheduled times unless otherwise directed by a supervisor. Please feel free to contact the Department of Public Safety at 575.562.2393 or 575.760.2945 with any questions, comments, or concerns you may have.

Academic Clemency Policy

The Eastern New Mexico University academic clemency policy allows qualified students to redeem their academic record.

Philosophy

Students who have previously attempted course work at ENMU and were not successful but who wish to resume their college careers may, through the granting of academic clemency, exclude the poor academic record from current work.

Criteria

To be considered for clemency, a student:

  1. Has not attended ENMU or any of its branches for five or more years.
  2. Has completed the first 12 credit hours after returning with a minimum grade of "C" or higher in each class taken. If more than 12 hours are attempted prior to seeking clemency, the student must earn a grade of "C" or higher in each class attempted.

Procedure

Students who meet these criteria may apply for clemency in the Office of the Registrar after having successfully completed the first 12 or more credit hours with a grade of "C" or higher in each class taken. No courses taken prior to the student's return will be counted in his/her Eastern New Mexico University institutional GPA or toward degree requirements.

Note:

  1. Students can avail themselves of this policy only once and it is not reversible. Grades earned before clemency will continue to show on the student's record with a * beside the grade.
  2. Students who have already graduated may not apply for clemency.
