A variety of sources of financial assistance are available to graduate students at Eastern. Most student will qualify for some assistance. The brief guide that follows identifies the type of assistance, the amount of assistance, qualifications for applicants, method of application, and contact office. Additional information about the various programs can be acquired from the contact person or office listed with each source.
Graduate Assistantship
- Amount of Award: $10,032 and an out-of-state tuition waiver.
- Length of Award: May be renewed for up to two years of full-time support provided that you are making good progress and is in good standing.
- Expectations: A full-time graduate assistant is required to work 20 hours per week during regular semesters under the direct supervision of a faculty member.
- Qualifications: In order to qualify for an assistantship, you must be admitted to the Graduate School, admitted to a graduate degree granting program, and be in good standing.
- Application: Graduate assistantships are posted on the Employment Opportunities job list, found in ENMU Human Resources. The application is an online form, and the information is submitted through the system to the graduate coordinator of your program of study.
Scholarships
ENMU Foundation Scholarships
The ENMU Foundation offers a variety of scholarships for students of every level (incoming freshman, current/transfer students, and graduate students). Applications are accepted most years Jan. 1 to Feb. 15 of each year for the following academic year scholarships.

Graduate Scholarship
- Amount of Award: Up to $7200 an academic year.
- Length of Award: Recipient is awarded the scholarship for twelve months (fall, spring and summer semesters). May be renewed for an additional year, with a maximum award length of two years full-time support, provided the student is making good progress toward the degree, maintains a cumulative graduate GPA of 3.00, and is enrolled in coursework in good standing. If the recipient vacates a scholarship prior to the end of the first award period, ENMU may assign the scholarship to another student. Termination of the scholarship may occur if the student fails to comply with university policies and procedures.
- Expectations: A scholarship recipient is required to work ten hours a week during the fall, spring, and summer semesters under direct supervision of a faculty member.
- Qualifications: In order to qualify for the New Mexico Graduate Scholarship, applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; be accepted for enrollment as a full-time graduate student at ENMU; must demonstrate a financial need by submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) application to the university’s Financial Aid Office by March 1st; must be from an underrepresented group in graduate education, meaning a woman, an ethnic minority, or a person with accommodations.
- Application Deadlines: Application should be submitted by March 15 for fall semester. Completed form and supporting materials should be submitted to the Graduate School. Please note that in order to demonstrate financial need a student must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA must be completed by March 1.

Graduate Fellowship
- Amount of Award: $3,000
- Length of Award: One year- May be renewed for up to two years provided the student is making good progress toward the degree, maintain a cumulative graduate GPA of 3.70, and enrolled in coursework in good standing. The student may have to forfeit the fellowship and refund a pro-rated portion under certain circumstances: If the recipient withdraws from the university during the term of the fellowship for other than emergency circumstances; if the recipient changes from full-time to part-time status at any time during the year; if the recipient is convicted of criminal activity during the term of the Fellowship.
- Expectations: No specific work expectations are associated with this scholarship.
- Qualifications: In order to qualify for the graduate fellowship, you:
- must be a New Mexico resident
- must have an outstanding undergraduate record of academic achievement.
- must be accepted for enrollment as a full-time graduate student at ENMU.
- must not have previously enrolled in ENMU's Graduate School.
- Application: Application should be submitted by March 15 for following fall semester. Completed form and supporting materials should be submitted to the Graduate School.

Graduate STEM Scholarship
- Amount of Award: Up to $7200
- Length of Award: Recipient is awarded the scholarship for 12 months (Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters). Fellowship may be renewed for an additional year.
- Expectations: No specific work expectations are associated with this scholarship.
- Qualifications: In order to qualify for the graduate fellowship, you
- must be a graduate student looking to pursue a degree in the STEM field
- must be a New Mexico High School graduate
- must have an outstanding undergraduate record of academic achievement
- must have met all admission requirements
- be accepted for enrollment as a full time student.
- must not have previously enrolled in ENMU's Graduate School.
- Application: Application should be submitted by March 15 for following fall semester. Completed form and supporting materials should be submitted to the Graduate School.

Federal and State Financial Aid
- Amount of Award: Varies, based on demonstrated need and academic load.
- Qualifications: Graduate students may apply for aid prior to enrolling, but their admission must be completed before aid will be granted. Students must be enrolled for at least half-time course of study unless they have made special arrangements beforehand. Students must be in good academic standing.
- Application Deadline: Applications and supporting materials should be submitted by March 1 for the fall semester. Completed forms and additional materials should be submitted to the Director of Student Financial Aid.
- Application Form: You can pick up an application form at the Office of Financial Aid in the Student Academic Services Building (SAS), Room 107.
Research Grants
Graduate Student Research Grants
- Amount of Award: A maximum of $400 per grant cycle based on availability of funds.
- Length of Award: Funds must be expended during the fiscal year of the award. You may apply for repeated funding.
- Expectations: Grant funds may be used to support any aspect of graduate research.
- Qualifications: In order to qualify for this grant, you must be admitted to and enrolled in a graduate program (either full-time or part-time) and must have a graduate degree plan on file.
- Application Deadlines: Applications are accepted in the Fall and Spring semesters, due by the end of midterms week. Completed application forms and required additional materials should be submitted to the Graduate School.
- Application Form: To apply, send an email to the Graduate Dean, [email protected], and provide a copy of your prospectus or research plan and a minimal budget.
Sigma Xi Grants-in-aid of Research
- Amount of Award: $1000 maximum.
- Length of Award: N/A
- Expectations: All funds must be expended directly in support of the proposed investigation. An applicant seeking support for an extension or continuation of a previously supported project must submit a new application, which must be accompanied by two copies of a report on the work accomplished with the previous Grant-in-Aid.
- Qualifications: Research awards are made to support scientific investigation in any field. Applicants must be degree seeking students whose faculty advisor is a full, active member of Sigma Xi or the student themselves must be an active member of Sigma XI
- Application Deadline: Completed application and supporting materials must be submitted by March 15 for summer and fall semesters and October 15 for Spring semester. Grant application and guidelines may be obtained directly from Sigma XI, The Scientific Research Society in printed or electronic form. Required materials may submitted by mail or electronically directly to Sigma XI, The Scientific Research Society.
