Eastern New Mexico University Announces Move-in Day and Welcome Weekend Activities

Portales, NM – August 6, 2024 – Eastern New Mexico University has announced move-in day for students living on campus during the 2024-2025 academic year. ENMU has also planned several activities that will take place during the annual Welcome Weekend, titled ENMU Dawg Days, to welcome students back to campus.

"Dawg Days are here again! I love this time of year when students move in, and the campus truly comes to life," said James Johnston, ENMU Chancellor. "This is a wonderful tradition where ENMU faculty, staff, and student leaders turn out to move in the new Greyhounds and welcome them to the family. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone back on campus and we are ready!"

Move-in day is Saturday, August 17, for new students from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.; returning students can move in from 1 to 5 p.m. ENMU faculty, staff, and student groups will be out Saturday morning, August 17, from 8 a.m. until Noon to help new students move into their dorms.

"We are elated to welcome hundreds of new Hounds to our beautiful ENMU campus. Move-in day will be awesome, and we have numerous events and activities to help everyone settle in," said Christy Johanson, vice president for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. "Dawg Days is a special time to welcome new Hounds and gear up for a successful semester. I am excited to be part of this tradition."

Welcome Weekend activities, titled ENMU Dawg Days, kick off Saturday afternoon with the Family/Community Fair, Pep Rally, and Barbecue at 5 p.m. at Dallan Sanders Patio outside the Campus Union Building.

The Office of Campus Life has lined up three nights of Entertainment for ENMU Students as part of Dawg Days. On Saturday night, students will participate in a paint party featuring DJ FoulMouth J. The paint party features gallons of neon paint, special effects, and a live DJ.

On Sunday, Aug. 18, ENMU welcomes comedians Brent Pella and Andrew Rivers. Pella, a graduate of the full Groundlings and UCB improv and sketch programs, is a stand-up comedian and filmmaker whose videos have gained over 500 million views online and was recently named a "Creator to Watch" by the New York Comedy Festival. Rivers is a regular opener for Christopher Titus, has toured across North America and Europe with Steve Hofstetter, and appeared on the Joy Podcast with Craig Ferguson. River's comedy specials with Dry Bar Comedy and others have earned millions of views online. As well as viral clips from Steve Hofstetter's heckler videos.

On Monday, Aug 19, ENMU welcomes mentalist Matt the Knife. Matt the Knife (MTK) is the outrageous mentalist, magician, and speaker known for his trademark brand of wit that blends intense charisma with wickedly humorous improvisation and unique performance art. MTK has earned numerous industry awards and has been featured by over 50 national and international media outlets, including Discovery Channel, The Wall Street Journal, NBC, New York Post, ESPN Magazine, The History Channel, and many more.
