Regina Bouley Sweeten is the Archives and Special Collections Librarian at the Golden Student Success Center at Eastern New Mexico University. She was recently appointed by New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham to the Board of Directors for the New Mexico Humanities Council. Bouley Sweeten and her husband have lived in Portales, New Mexico since 2016 when she and her husband both were hired at ENMU.
The board has 22 members and five of them have the potential to be appointed by the governor. Of those five members, Regina was chosen by the governor of New Mexico to be on the board. "I was shocked," Bouley Sweeten said. "It’s a great honor, and I am really excited to use it as an opportunity to serve this part of the state." Her goal on the board is to bring humanities education to local communities in New Mexico.
The New Mexico Humanities Council works to bring humanities programming to people across the state of New Mexico. They offer funding and resources for things like National History Day and transportation for judges of competitions all over New Mexico. They encourage humanistic thinking in high schoolers and help teachers with the resources to teach their students.
