PORTALES, NM – June 1, 2023 – For the 27th year, the Theta-Zeta chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity ran their annual Cowdrop fundraiser at Eastern New Mexico University.
The Cowdrop is Kappa Sigma's annual fundraiser, with a portion of the proceeds going to the ENMU Foundation for scholarships and a portion of the proceeds going to the Kappa Sigma Military Heroes Campaign.
"The biggest reason we do this fundraiser is to give back to the community," said Alex Aguirre, president of the Theta-Zeta chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. "This also allows our members to travel and meet new people when we sell the tickets. This way, they can do something that directly improves the community."
This was the 27th year of the annual Cowdrop fundraiser, with the fraternity adding the Foundation as a beneficiary in 2004. Since 2004, active members have raised $69,890 for the ENMU Foundation, with most funds enriching the Kappa Sigma Scholarship Fund.
"ENMU is fortunate to have such a strong chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity," said James Johnston, ENMU President. "Theta-Zeta chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity's work on campus and in the community exemplifies the student engagement we seek to cultivate."
Since 2007, the Kappa Sigma Military Heroes Campaign has raised over $2 million dollars to aid veterans across North America. The Military Heroes Campaign is funded through donations and philanthropic fundraising from local Kappa Sigma Fraternity Undergraduate Chapters made directly to non-profit organizations that provide services and support to armed forces veterans and their families in the United States and Canada. Eastern New Mexico University's Kappa Sigma chapter proudly supports these efforts.
