PORTALES, NM – Aug. 26, 2022 – Rare and antique documents are now on display at the Eastern New Mexico University Golden Student Success Center (GSSC), and the public is invited to a reception celebrating the exhibit Friday, Sept. 16 from 4-7 p.m.
The Remnant Trust is a public educational foundation which shares a collection of manuscripts and works dealing with individual liberty and human dignity, for the purpose of elevating educational standards. The GSSC now has access to 15 items for display. Among the items available are a leaf from the Gospel of Matthew published in 1536, works by Thomas Aquinas from the 1400s, and an issue of the Massachusetts Magazine published in 1790.
The public is able to physically handle and inspect the documents under librarian supervision, with individual appointments or class tours available for those who wish to have a personal experience with history.
By sharing these documents and ideas in their original form, The Remnant Trust hopes to increase the public's understanding of individual liberty and how these ideas helped form this nation.
"Viewing and engaging with The Remnant Trust materials is a once in a lifetime opportunity," said Laura Wight, director of the GSSC. "Holding history in your hands, being transported to another time and events that shaped our modern intellectual and social culture through the written word is incredibly impactful."
The display is free and open to the public. For more information on The Remnant Trust, visit www.enmu.edu/RemnantTrust.
