Senate President's Final Address

Senate President's Final Address

Hello Greyhounds,

As the semester comes to a close, I find it only appropriate to capitalize and highlight on the incredible things we, as a student body, took part in! We, as students, continue to strive for "Student Success" not only in the classroom, but through involvement, collaboration and individual development, which are all commendable acts.

We kicked off the Fall semester with none other than Dawg Days! Extremely diverse and energetic counselors, along with the directors, made the freshman feel welcomed and safe in multiple facets. I am more than sure that upon arrival, the student and parent were assured they had made the right choice in becoming a part of this thing of ours!

Homecoming came around and we had alumni come from near and far take part in the festivities Eastern had to offer. ASENMU & ASAB put together a series of events throughout the week and this year, with the new implementation of a "Movie on the Lawn," four students walked away with a new pair of kicks! The alumni were also able to catch a glimpse of the new stadium that will be completed on the projected date of August 1st.

Concluding the Fall semester, the Greyhound football team participated in the Heart of Texas Bowl game, the boys and girls cross country team placed in conference, boys and girls basketball prepared for their first bit of games, the Caduceus Health Society hosted an Allied Health Symposium, the theatre department had a successful semester with their showcasing of Elephant Man and more, the Pre-Dental Society was able to sponsor children for cleft-pallet surgery, the art department hosted their talented students art work through the galleries, the music department held a Holiday Concert, we had 328 graduates embark on the world and so much more!

Spring semester was welcomed by a much warmer winter than projected with no "snow days" to the advantage! ASENMU Up Til' Dawn was held in February in which all proceeds go to St. Jude Children's Hospital and it was an event that made history; over $40 thousand dollars was raised which went above and beyond the projected goal of $25 thousand! Students came together to celebrate the gift of life and enjoy games, mission moments and personal experiences as it relates to cancer. To assist with these fundraising efforts, the graphic and design students even held their own event and partook in a "Design til' Dawn" in which students designed various pieces of art for individuals from dusk til' dawn!

We had multiple organizations allowing for further student involvement through ways of community service, small tokens of gratitude and academic achievement! Psyched In took the time to volunteer at the local Children's homes, Students for Bernie has raised awareness of the upcoming presidential election, the Spanish Club has had multiple fundraisers, the Film Club is busier than ever, both fraternities and sororities have given back through not only their Philanthropic commitments but through other acts of service, and additional organizations came together to give back to the Portales community through a day of service with Eastern in Action.

We conclude this school year with the production of "Our Town", Dead Week, Mud Volleyball, Finals, and lasting memories and achievements. I wish all of you graduating seniors the best of luck in all endeavors! I thank you for allowing me to serve you for the 2015-2016 academic school year as your Student Body President. Know that you always have a home here at Eastern and I hope that your college career has been a fruitful one.

Sincerely Yours,

Halle A. Pittman
