Student Spotlight: Brianna Gilligan

Brianna Gilligan is a freshman at Eastern New Mexico University. She is originally from Las Cruces, New Mexico and chose to attend ENMU because of the music program.

"I had a chance to audition for a music scholarship for the music department chair, Mr. Dustin Seifert. I soon found out he would be my applied lesson teacher; he teaches euphonium/tuba students and I play tuba," said Gilligan. "I quickly learned that the five-hour drive to be taught by this astounding teacher was worth it."

Gilligan is currently seeking to obtain a bachelor's in music education with an instrument emphasis. She loves music and was in her high school's band. The satisfaction of seeing other students get better encourages her to pursue a music degree.

She would like to be the teacher that changes student's lives someday.

She enjoys to hang out with friends when she can. Most of her free time goes to practicing her tuba because it is essential to her success in her classes.

"My major is very demanding but with every major it is important to have balance or burnout is bound to happen. That's why 11 p.m. Sonic milkshakes are necessary sometimes," said Gilligan.

The best part about college for her so far is the independence. Not having to give answers to anyone and being completely responsible for herself is an exciting new journey. Her least favorite thing about college are financial matters and learning to manage her money.

Gilligan is involved in the Greyhound Sound Marching Band, Wind Symphony, and Brass Choir.

"I love it here at ENMU. I love how the campus takes the extra mile to make you feel comfortable, safe, and welcome," said Gilligan. "The music department is amazing and I am enjoying myself so much. Thank you so much, ENMU! Go Greyhounds!"
