Portales, NM – February 26, 2024 – Eastern New Mexico University proudly presents the University Juried Art Exhibition from Tuesday, February 20-Thursday, March 21, at the Runnells Gallery in the Golden Student Success Center.
"Art often serves as an active lens through which identity and time are explored and expressed. Artists navigate myriad choices to anchor their creative expression, ranging from color, narrative, material, depiction of ancestry, evolution, personal growth, traumas, and triumphs," said Alyssa Eble, Jurist, and Professional Artist. "In curating this exhibition, I have selected a range of artworks, from over 280 submissions, that delve into artists' choices for capturing timelines and identities, orchestrating nuance within their mediums and materials from life's upheaval and embrace."
"Within this collection," continued Eble, "the works grapple with the challenges and excitement of defining notions of time and self. These pieces either overtly or subliminally reference a moment's discordant structure. Although time is often considered linear, visual art can showcase an occasion's communion with shape, layering, and volume. Some artists choose joy as a conduit for processing the evolution of a loving or painful experience. In contrast, others opt for an hour's angst or anger to convey the obstacles inherent in the journey toward selfhood. I've chosen these artworks because they offer expansive considerations of how art can serve to convey the personal, a moment, and the ever-present nature of change."
The ENMU Runnels Gallery annually conducts the University Juried Art Exhibition as an opportunity for student artists to submit their creative visual work in a competitive environment.
