Portales, NM – February 23, 2024 – The ENMU Department of Theatre and Digital Filmmaking presents at the theatrical performance of the play “Native Gardens” Thursday, Feb. 29-Saturday, March 2 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 3 at 2 p.m. at the University Theatre Center Main Stage.
“Collaborating with our set and Lighting designer, Joe Thompson, and the talented actors Santiago Chacon, Isabel Juarez, Lowell Irby, Bee Cotton, Israel Stacy, Julie Poole, and Ezequiel Barraza, has been a pleasure,” said Anne Beck, Professor of Theatre, and Director of the Performance. “Our team included Theresa Rohe, Stage Manager, and Gel Macias, Assistant Stage Manager. We have been fortunate to have Jon Barr as our producer and chair of the Department of Theatre and Digital Filmmaking. The play is for both laughing and thinking.”
In this brilliant new comedy, cultures and gardens clash, turning well-intentioned neighbors into feuding enemies. Pablo, a rising attorney and doctoral candidate, and Tania, his very pregnant wife, have just purchased a home next to Frank and Virginia, a well-established D.C. couple with a prize-worthy English garden. But an impending barbeque for Pablo’s colleagues and a delicate disagreement over a long-standing fence line soon spirals into an all-out border dispute, exposing both couples’ notions of race, taste, class, and privilege. The hilarious results guarantee that no one comes out smelling like a rose.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for senior citizens. Tickets are available online at www.enmu.edu/TheatreLive or the door on the day of the show.
