Portales, NM– May 9, 2023– Eastern New Mexico University is proud to launch the first 100% Chat GPT AI-generated science fiction anthology and 100% AI-generated science fiction magazine.

This project aimed to publish the first science fiction anthology book and first science fiction magazine entirely written by AI and document this investigative and research process by tracking the prompts used to generate each portion of the book/magazine.

The anthology and science fiction magazine was a collaborative project between students, faculty, and staff. Together, they formed a collaborative group that was named "Project Locke"

"This project is a great example of the exploration and innovation that is ENMU," said James Johnston, ENMU Chancellor.  "I especially appreciate that this is a collaboration of faculty, staff, and students of ENMU. Again, this underscores that ENMU is committed to student engagement and success."

The anthology contains short stories, recipes, poems, essays, play scripts, and even an AI-generated cover image using Dall-E (image-generating AI).  The "Project Locke" collaborative team felt that this project aligned with the 'spirit of Eastern' with Jack Williamson's history of coining science fiction terms and building a literary legacy. The book has since been dedicated to Jack Williamson.

The eBook will soon be available for purchase via all common eBook suppliers, including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Apple Books.   Print Books are available for purchase through the Golden Library.  All proceeds go to the 'Jack Williamson Freshman Excellence student scholarship through the ENMU Foundation.'
