EDF Renewables Establishes Endowed Scholarship for ENMU EET-Renewable Energy Program

PORTALES, N.M. – Oct. 20, 2022 The Electronics Engineering Technology (EET)-Renewable Energy Program at Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) is the beneficiary of an endowment established by EDF Renewables North America, a market-leading independent power producer and service provider with 35 years of expertise in renewable energy. On Oct. 14, Representatives from EDF Renewables presented a $25,000 check to ENMU Chancellor Dr. Patrice Caldwell and toured the ENMU Electrical Engineering Labs. The new endowment will provide scholarships for ENMU students majoring in the EET program with an emphasis in Renewable Energy.

This initial investment from EDF Renewables represents a commitment to the long-term goal of building on the university's success with a new emphasis in Renewable Energy by offering scholarships to ultimately support the industry's workforce needs in the state and region.

"Partnering with ENMU allows us to give back to the community and support the state's economic growth," said Kenton Martin, Project Development Manager for EDF Renewables, based out of Las Cruces, N.M. "EDF Renewables is proud to support local communities through partnerships like this to help in the success of New Mexico's transition and development of a strong renewable energy industry."

Mr. Martin stated ENMU was the only four-year school in New Mexico with a four-year EET degree program emphasizing renewable energies. That makes Eastern a good fit with EDF Renewables' business and goals within the region.

"This is a great opportunity for students of the EET program," said Dr. Hamid Allamehzadeh, professor of EET at ENMU. "This is just the beginning, and these scholarships will help our students who are benefiting from our unique degree emphasis on renewable energy."

"The strength of the EET program is its connections with an excellent renewable energy company like EDF Renewables," Caldwell said. "We are very grateful for their insights about how to strengthen our program, their interest in our students, and their generous scholarship support. ENMU is proud to have a partner like EDF Renewables."
