PORTALES, NM – Dec. 10, 2021 – Eastern New Mexico University and New Mexico-based Lescombes Family Vineyards announced today the creation of Eastern Sunrise wine. The sweet white wine will be available at all Lescombes locations beginning today, with additional statewide distribution over the coming months.
The wine is described as a New Mexico sweet carbonated white wine, with hints of peaches and honeydew, that pairs well with traditional white wine dishes. Revenues generated from sales of Eastern Sunrise will go to support scholarships for students at Eastern New Mexico University.
"Eastern New Mexico University welcomes this partnership with Lescombes Family Vineyards in our support of Student Success," said ENMU President Patrice Caldwell. "We look forward to this elegant wine being part of the holiday celebrations of many of our Greyhound family. A special wine experience and a contribution to student scholarships—the perfect holiday combination."
The name "Eastern Sunrise" was chosen from over 100 names that were submitted in the naming contest ENMU hosted this past summer. ENMU Alumnus Andrew Sanchez suggested the name "Eastern Sunrise" as part of the naming contest and will win a prize package from ENMU, including a bottle of Eastern Sunrise wine.
The front of the bottle showcases ENMU's most historic building, the administration building, with the brilliant eastern sunrise rising in the background. ENMU alumnus Bryan Hahn created the bottle design.
"We celebrate and thank ENMU for this opportunity to work together," said the president of Lescombes Family Vineyards, Florent Lescombes. "Here, we have a partnership supporting local agriculture, employment, and increased scholarship opportunities. We are grateful this was such a great fit for both organizations."
In 2021, ENMU worked with New Mexico-based Red Rock Roasters to create and launch Greyhound Grind Coffee as well as working with New Mexico-based Taco Box to release Silver Dawg Salsa. Eastern Sunrise wine joins these two products in helping to support scholarships at Eastern New Mexico University
To support scholarships at Eastern New Mexico University, purchase a bottle of Eastern Sunrise wine at any Lescombes Family Vineyard property starting today. An online and statewide in-store purchasing options will be available in the coming months.
