Our Philosophy

System + Spirit = Success

The two most important attributes of a successful band are a system and spirit.

A system is a way of doing things. It represents the total structure of our band, including organization, procedures, activities, philosophies, teaching methods, marching, and playing style and policies.

Spirit represents how individual band members respond to the system. It includes practice habits, positive attitudes, mental discipline, and work ethic. When the system is followed and good spirit is in place, the result is success and its byproducts, including pride, enthusiasm, loyalty, discipline, and dedication.

Greyhound Sound Marching Band

Dustin Seifert, Sidney Shuler and Peter Grubisich, directors

The Greyhound Sound Marching Band (GSMB) is the conduit for school spirit and pride at ENMU. The GSMB, "The Sound of the High Plains", is proud to celebrate its 89th year of musical excellence!

GSMB members are both music majors and non-majors. The GSMB performs music from the hottest charts, providing spectacular halftime entertainment for the fans that pack Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium.

The GSMB meets during the fall semester. Rehearsals are held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from noon to 1:50 p.m. in the Floren Thompson Jr. Band Hall and outdoor rehearsal facility, Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium.

Members of the GSMB proudly represented ENMU, the state of New Mexico, and the United States of America when they performed, by invitation of the Lord Mayor of Dublin, in 2009, 2015, and 2019 at the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland.

The GSMB has performed at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on three occasions.

In 2024, the heavy metal band Metallica challenged marching bands at all levels to craft the most exciting, unique, and impressive performances featuring their music. Following adjudication by a panel of esteemed marching band professionals and final selection by Metallica, the GSMB was named the College (Divisions II and III) winner of the "For Whom the Band Tolls" marching band competition.
