Financial Auditor Student Undergraduate InternJob Type: Internship Summary: As a GAO intern, you will learn how to conduct federal audits and apply that knowledge as part of a team. Financial Auditors participate in a wide range of engagements with the overall objective of strengthening accountability for the Federal government's assets and operations. They perform financial audits and analyses, promote financial management best practices, assess internal controls, and identify and support improvements in a variety of financial areas affecting program performance. Recent team assignments have included supporting Congressional oversight of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) and the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA). You will assist GAO auditors in planning and conducting audits of agency programs and operations. You will collect appropriate data, analyze the data, develop data-based findings and conclusions, and present the information both orally and in writing to diverse audiences. Successful interns who have completed a minimum of 400 hours may have an opportunity for a permanent position with us. For more information please visit: www.usajobs.gov Qualifications: To qualify for the GS-4 level, applicants must have at least 90 semester hours or 135 quarter hours, but less than the requirements for completion of an undergraduate degree. Applicants must meet Superior Academic Achievement and at least 12 semester hours in accounting which may include 6 hours of credit in business law. All requirements must be complete at the start of the internship. Please ensure that you will have the required number of hours at the start of the internship. If you select grade 4 and your transcript does not document your having completed at least the minimum number of required hours for a grade 4, you will not be considered for an intern position with us. Duties: Assist in preparing, analyzing, and interpreting accounting data. Use generally accepted accounting principles and standards to assist with analyzing data and identifying problems. Develop accounting information to help draft recommendations to solve management problems or to restructure an organization. Assist senior financial auditors in reviewing financial systems. Brief supervisor and other team members on the results of research analysis. Prepare written summaries and draft written products as necessary for the use of senior financial auditors.
