Job Summary: City of Hobbs has an opening for a Recreation Superintendent.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in recreation or leisure studies or a related field plus six years of full-time professional experience in recreation. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Knowledge of principles and practices of municipal recreation administration and supervision.
Knowledge of methods involved in planning, organizing, conducting and evaluating recreational special events, programs and activities.
Knowledge of community recreation programs and organizations.
Ability to perform a broad range of supervisory responsibilities over others.
Ability to produce written documents with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation and grammar.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Parks and Recreation Director, city boards and commissions, subordinate staff and the general public.
Valid state issued driver’s license.

Duties: Under general supervision from the Parks & Recreation Director administers a comprehensive recreation program to meet the leisure needs of the community. Works with private, quasi-public, and governmental agencies; educational institutions; professional staff and volunteers. Supervises full and part-time recreation staff at various recreation facilities/joint-use facilities that are involved in specialty areas such as music, dance, drama, arts and crafts, special events, outdoor sports, special interest classes and volunteer programs.

Plans, attends, supervises and evaluates special events, programs and activities. Conducts research and prepares written reports, budget requests, expenditure justifications, facility usage and activity reports, etc. Maintains accurate and concise records. Participates in the planning of new recreation facilities. Oversees the activities and use of public recreation facilities. Meets with individuals or groups to develop interest and support for recreation activities. Serves as the City’s liaison with the Committee for Hobbs and Hobbs Beautiful.
