Job Summary: Highland School District in Cowiche, Washington is seeking to fill the position of a Science Teacher at Highland High School, teaching 9th-12th Grade. Applicant will provide core instruction following the adopted curriculum for grades 9th -12th, recognize and develop extended curricular elements that are aligned with the Washington State EALR’s in Science and Common Core State Standards. Develop lessons and units of study aligned with HSD scope and sequence as well as the Washington State EALR’s and Common Core State Standards. This teaching assignment will include Integrated Science and Life Science courses. Extracurricular assignments may be available.
Qualifications: Applicants for the position must have:
A valid Washington State teaching certificate with a K-12th endorsement and Highly Qualified in Science or a 4th -12th Science endorsement.
Teaching experience at the high school level in the content areas of science preferred.
Demonstrate the ability to organize instruction to reach a variety of ability levels and learning modes on a daily basis.
Familiarity with state reform, assessment and curriculum alignment.
Demonstrate the ability to use data to assess student progress and growth in a number of ways and with attention to the improvement of instruction.
Demonstrate an ability to maintain accurate and timely student records and assessment data and provide academic reports within given timelines.
Demonstrate an ability to integrate the use of new technology in your instructional process.
Experience working collaboratively with others, especially as a professional learning community.
Demonstrate an ability to help all students learn at a high level.
Duties: Applicants must be able to communicate and relate to the academic, social, and emotional needs of high school aged students. Applicants must be committed to establishing lines of communication and partnering with parents and fellow staff members to provide students with an effective learning experience. Applicants must be excited about teaching Science and working with students. Candidates must have a willingness to collaborate with staff in a collegial manner around instructional methods and procedures. Applicants must have an understanding of the purpose of professional development and the desires to continuously improve their skills of as an educator. Applicants are expected to assist Highland Junior High School and Highland High School in the alignment of curriculum and closely follow established curriculum maps to ensure instructional consistency and accuracy. Candidates must be familiar with and have a strong working understanding of the content and processes provided in the tenth grade Biology End of Course Exam.
