Job Summary: Highland School District #203 has an opening for a special education teacher to provide and coordinate services for eligible students in grades 7-12 in a collaborative team approach within the department and the Junior High and High Schools. Primary content support focus of this position will be in the area of math.

Qualifications: Current Washington State Teaching certificate
Special Education endorsement or willingness to pursue one
Training and/or experience which would allow candidate to meet the Highly Qualified standards in Math preferred but district is willing to work with candidate to establish their highly qualified status
Teaching experience working with secondary aged students in a variety of settings, preferred
Interpersonal communication skills, which would facilitate working with children, parents and school staff in the development and maintenance of this program in a multicultural setting.
Demonstrated computer literacy including some knowledge of assistive technology
Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills preferred.

Duties: Development, coordination and implementation of program(s) to meet goals and objectives as outlined in each student’s Individualized Education Plan in a collaborative model with general education.
Assess students with appropriate tools to determine eligibility and program planning needs.
Write and implement compliant individual education plans (IEPs), and monitor student progress.
Assist with the development and implementation of behavior management plans for specific students.
Manage transition planning and related activities for individual students on caseload
Manage and supervise the activities of para-professionals.
Coordinate/support program implementation of specialists as needed in the classroom.
Develop and implement parent support program for identified families.
