Job Summary: Performs a variety of entry-level complex technical duties as needed to help expedite various phases of assigned planning projects and processes; conducts technical research and analysis in support of one or more areas of land use, community, economic and social planning or development programs.
Qualifications: Education and Experience
A. Graduation from college with an associate’s degree in geography, planning, statistics, computer graphics, physical sciences, engineering, water resources, and/or related fields; AND
B. One (1) year experience in resource planning, planning research/land use analysis including use of geographic information systems, data base management systems and graphic applications; OR
C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Some knowledge of research methodology; of statistical analysis; of community and regional planning; of computerized data compilation and conversion techniques; of report writing; of comprehensive planning tools and ability to apply them appropriately; of graphics presentation and production techniques. Water resource planning and management and or hydrology.
Some skill in effective use of various software applications, i.e., ARC/INFO (ARCVIEW, COGO, ARCCAD, and NETWORK) dBase-IV, MS-Windows Office Professional, WordPerfect and/or PageMaker. Data base management systems, geographic information systems, and graphic applications.
Ability to use standard drafting instruments; to research technical material, summarize findings and make appropriate recommendations; to prepare and present clear and concise graphic, oral and written reports; to read, interpret and work from field notes, land descriptions, surveys, aerial photographs, plans, etc. to meet deadlines, to establish effective working relationships with associates and the public.
3. Special Qualifications
Must possess a valid driver’s license and obtain a City of Santa Fe driving permit.
4. Work Environment
Work is generally performed in an office setting. Some field, evening, weekend or irregular work hours may be required. May be required to work outside during inclement weather. Requires good hearing and visual acuity and may require sitting for long periods of time with close exposure to
