Job Summary: Provides backup to other clerical support by performing typing and clerical duties for the supervisor and other members of the staff.
APHIS is an emergency response agency. This means that all Agency employees may be asked or assigned to participate in rotating temporary duty assignments to support emergency programs at some time during their careers with APHIS.
Qualifications: Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including the following general experience and/or education, as identified by grade level.
FOR THE GS-04 LEVEL, GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have one year of general experience. General experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. This experience may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors. which demonstrates:
.Producing and filing various routine correspondence, reports, contracts, permits, etc.
.Using word processing software and printing equipment to create, copy and edit.
.Receiving visitors and phone calls to the office, ascertaining the nature of requests and directing callers to appropriate staff.
.Entering data into Excel spreadsheets and Access database. Retrieving information for reports and inquiries.
.Reviewing correspondence prepared for the staff. Checking for spelling, typographical errors, conformance to formats and procedural requirements.
OR Successful completion of 2 years above high school. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for this grade level.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-04 GRADE LEVEL: Applicants may have combinations of successfully completed education and specialized experience to meet total qualification requirements. .This position is subject to unscheduled overnight details of undetermined lengths in the event of animal health emergencies or other conditions requiring immediate response, as required by the Agency. (Extensive periods of time may be designated for overnight details.)
Duties: The duties may include, but are not limited to:
.Receives and files correspondence, records, reports, and other material.

.Uses word processing equipment to produce various documents.
.Performs a variety of clerical tasks such as validating and processing documents which pertain to the organization's work.

.Schedules appointments and makes meeting arrangements in accordance with instructions for the supervisor.
.Prepares time and attendance reports, as required.
