Job Summary: Performs full performance level operational duties required for the proper operation of the Source of Supply Section.
Qualifications: 1. Education and Experience
A. High School Diploma or equivalent; AND
B. Four (4) years of experience in Advanced Water Treatment and operations. High Purity or Conventional Treatment preferred; OR
C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must be able to read and write.
Some knowledge of arithmetic.
Ability to learn occupational hazards and safety procedures in water operations/maintenance field; to operate powered and manual
Duties: equipment machinery and tools used in water field/plant operations; to establish effective working relationships; to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to observe and adhere to safety rules and established regulations and guidelines.
3. Special Qualifications
New Mexico Water Systems Certification Level IV. Must posses a valid New Mexico Driver’s License and obtain a City of Santa Fe driving permit. Must be certified in CPR/First Aid within three (3) months of hire. Must become certified in compliance sampling within six
Directs and monitors the operation of the SCADA system and insures a continuous safe water supply to the customers; complies with current state and federal drinking water regulations.
Operates and treats Water Surface Treatment Supply using chemical addition recommended by performing jar tests.
Performs all operational procedures required for the proper operation of the water system to ensure an adequate supply of potable water from the supply system.
Maintains an accurate and complete log of all operational functions performed during assigned shift and will become familiar with previous notations upon start of shift.
Performs minor maintenance operations as required, operates and maintains filter press, and becomes familiar with all aspects of the operating equipment. May assist the maintenance section in diagnosing inoperable conditions.
Performs accurate laboratory analysis of Treatment Plant processes, Supply and Distribution systems, for proper, efficient system operations. Completes the necessary forms to report analysis results.
Familiarizes oneself with the system demands to ensure that an adequate supply of water is available at all times by anticipating high-use days and times, and performs the proper operational procedures as required.
Performs all housekeeping duties required for the supply system and related areas to comply with assigned housecleaning duties.
Maintains accurate water supply records accumulated from the entire system. Compiles all required data and reports for submission as required.
Remains knowledgeable of safety rules and procedures provided by manufacturers or established by the City. Conforms to all safety policies and work standards established.
Collects samples for customer complaints; for State or Federal required samples, and handles situations regarding any Safe Water Quality issues as directed by operation supervisor.
