Job Summary: Promote Santa Fe as a desirable destination. Manage and organize daily operations of Visitor Centers located inside the Santa Fe Community Convention Center and historic Santa Fe Depot in the Railyard. Organization, coordination, scheduling and direction of Visitor Center staff and volunteers at both Visitor Centers. Research and put together Weekly Calendar of Events by maintaining awareness of local events. Maintain inventory, including ordering brochures, maps, souvenirs and other retail and promotional items. Oversight of cash handling in both Visitor Centers, including preparation and delivery of daily deposits of funds received. Establish and enforce Visitor Center policies and procedures. Assist visitors with travel needs in person, by telephone, fax and/or internet. Maintain and work on ongoing projects as directed by Convention & Visitors Bureau Director.
Qualifications: Education and Experience
Two years progressively responsible experience in tourism related or customer service operation, preferably in a busy visitor center; AND
Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism Management, or closely related field.
Must possess a valid New Mexico driver’s license and obtain a City of Santa Fe driving permit within three (3) months of hire. Considerable skill in typing and experience in operating general office equipment, including but not limited to, personal computer/printer, including database management systems (CRM, CRS, and Microsoft Office platforms), multi-line telephone, internet, books, manuals, photocopiers, 10-key calculator, typewriters, fax machines and scanners.
Thorough Knowledge of the City of Santa Fe, including attractions, roads, retail establishments, restaurants, etc.
Familiarity with Northern New Mexico, including roads, transportation, and services available.
Considerable Skill in high level of effective communication, language and presentation skills; interpersonal relations; demonstrated public speaking skills.
High level of communication and language skills, including effective listening skills, clear speaking, good vision and hearing. Fluency in foreign languages preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience in practices, terminology, and general operations of a Visitor Center, including professional telephone etiquette and exemplary customer service standards. Demonstrated Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with a diverse customer base.
Duties: Promote Santa Fe as a desirable destination to all guests and visitors.
Ability to diplomatically interact with a diverse customer base, which could include age, race, identity and social values.
Attendance at off-site trade shows, conferences, etc. as directed by supervisor.
Provide and oversee assistance to visitors with travel needs, including lodging, restaurants, museums, special events, and general tourist information.
Maintain effective working relationships with local hospitality industry, tourism offices and local, regional, and state organizations, to ensure support for the Visitor Centers.
Community outreach by hosting informational sessions for hospital industry and other community partners.
Oversight of daily operations, including maintenance of quality information at Visitor Centers.
Maintain and work on ongoing projects, as directed by supervisor.
Assist guests in a professional manner, in person, by phone, or email.
Create and update visitor itineraries (walking tour, sightseeing, historic, etc.), including assistance with convention or tour group planning, as necessary.
Maintain brochure stock and storage areas.
Create monthly Visitor Center reports.
Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of Visitor Centers.
Oversee and ensure staff maintains timely data entry of requests for visitor information for mailing and statistical information, and coordination of weekly bulk mail deliveries.
Update and maintain lists of available services of importance to visitors (restaurants, camp grounds, etc.)
Develop and oversee maintenance of permanent displays for Visitor Centers.
Create and maintain merchandising of retail sales inventory in Visitor Centers.
Perform other duties as assigned.
