Job Summary: Performs coordination duties regarding recreational, educational, instructional and sporting activities and events.
Qualifications: 1. Education and Experience
A Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform above and related duties; and
B. Two (2) years of experience directly related to youth recreation (i.e., team and individual sports, games and related activities/events for school-age children and teens), child care, and child development.
2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of the rules and procedures for a variety of recreation activities and events.
Some knowledge of program management, organization, implementation and coordination.
Ability to instruct and provide learning activities to children and youth; to schedule and organize activities and events at swim pools, parks, gyms, sporting fields, tennis courts and other recreational centers; to coordinate, direct and review the work of summer youth program employees; to present information clearly and concisely; to establish and maintain close and effective working relationships with associates and the public.
3. Special Qualifications
Must successfully pass background investigation. (MRC exempt)
Must possess a valid driver’s license and obtain a City of Santa Fe driving permit.
For Assignment in Community and Child Development Centers, Schools and Parks
Must become certified in First aid and CPR. Must also receive specialized training on various critical issues pertaining to child care development and related services.
Duties: Oversees and coordinates activities of volunteers, summer youth program staff, and patrons engaged in city sponsored and organized recreational, educational, instructional and sporting activities and events.
Assists in the scheduling and use of parks, gyms, swim pools, sporting fields, tennis courts, recreation centers and school facilities for program activities and events.
Organizes and schedules events and programs and assists with the necessary publicity.
Enforces policies, procedures, rules and regulations to ensure the safety of patrons.
Issues, repairs and recommends purchase of educational and recreational materials and equipment.
Prepares required statistical and special reports as required.
Provides and enhances knowledge and understanding of parents as to educational and developmental needs of their children.
Ensures compliance of performance standards as set forth by the division.
Participates in the planning and implementation of educational and recreational curriculum; instructs and participates with patrons in the various educational, recreational, instructional and sporting activities.
Attends meetings, training and in-service programs for staff as required.
Coordinates and collaborates with community programs and serves, when necessary, as liaison to governmental and community organizations and other recreation of early childhood development programs.
Participates in cleaning or recreation facilities and equipment and ensures the security of the facilities at the closing of each operating day.
