Job Summary: The Assistant News Director oversees the daily news gathering efforts of the news team, guiding coverage across multiple platforms and ensuring that the end product delivers on key brand strategies.
In conjunction with the News Director, he/she develops and implements long-term and short-term news strategies for product evolution and ratings growth.
The Assistant News Director directly supervises the multimedia journalist team, the assignment editor team, and the investigative team. He/she coaches team members at various stages of development. He/she also manages schedules for all on-air talent.
The Assistant News Director also leads planning efforts for special even coverage and maintains a 52 week schedule for promotable content.
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Broadcasting or Journalism or equivalent training and/or experience
Minimum of two years' experience as an Executive Producer (or comparable leadership role) and/or Assistant News Director.
Must possess previous show and writing experience.
Strong journalism, broadcast, news writing and web skills
Strong project management skills
Ability to maintain confidential information
Must demonstrate fairness and sensitivity in all interactions with employees and news subjects
Ability to work in and maintain a team-oriented environment.
Duties: 50% Oversees daily news gathering efforts across multiple platforms
20% Supervises reporting, assignment editor, and investigative team, coaching members along individual growth plans
15% Manages and maintains 52 week calendar for promotable content
10% Leads special event coverage planning
5% Manages schedules for all on-air talent
