Qualifications: While there is no minimum amount of training or experience required, the applicant must have had experience, military or civilian, paid or unpaid, of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties of a Utility Systems Operator, WG-5406-11.
The applicant must have experience operating and performing regular monitoring, general maintenance, and “as-needed” repairs to a wide range of boilers for the production of steam to meet demands; in operating an energy management control system (EMCS) which controls large complex air conditioning systems used for climatic controlling of various buildings aboard; operating and repairing various power and utility systems( backup power generators, boilers, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems).
Duties: The selectee will be responsible for maintaining boiler water levels, temperatures, and internal pressures within operating parameters. In addition the selectee will be responsible for
Maintaining constant observation of flow meters and charts to determine how much steam is being produced and whether it is meeting the demands or exceeding them.
Maintaining adequate steam production locates problem(s) and initiates immediate corrective action.
Responsible for operating large complex heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and chill water systems comprised of centrifugal and reciprocating types of refrigeration machines which include various components such as circulating pumps, heat exchanges, large air handling units, and water cooling towers.
Performing periodic operational tests and routine maintenance on power generators site-wide and will perform other tasks involving the maintenance of buildings, grounds, and related structures, fixtures and utilities.
Performing work without supervision during irregular shifts maintaining 24/7 coverage. This will include overnight shifts, weekends and holidays in order to maintain the continuous operation of the facility's systems.
