Job Summary: The BDD Public Relations Coordinator facilitates effective communication with the media, various stakeholder groups and the Santa Fe community for the Buckman Direct Diversion (BDD) Project; develops public education and outreach programs; and, organizes and participates in public education and outreach events.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field and two (2) years of professional public relations, journalism or communications experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling six (6) years, except that additional education may not substitute for the two (2) years of required experience.
Professional public relations, journalism or communications experience in water treatment and public utilities highly desirable.
Duties: Provides media relations consultation and advice to the BDD Facility Manager and BDD Board; and recommends, develops, and implements media relations and community communication strategies, policies and procedures.
Proactively engages the media (newspaper, radio, television, blogs, etc.) regarding BDD issues and matters of interest.
Designs, writes, edits and produces reports, presentations, publications, flyers, press releases, articles, electronic postings, etc. for the BDD Facility Manager and BDD Board.
Manages and updates the BDD website.
Develops and implements public education and outreach programs for the BDD.
Organizes public education and outreach events; coordinates BDD activities with media and special events sponsored or co-sponsored by other divisions, agencies and organizations.
Coordinates with local schools, colleges and universities to promote water treatment careers.
Coordinates and guides public tours at the BDD.
