Job Summary: Responsible for the proper maintenance and condition of all city owned athletic fields. Supervise the work of full time, part time, seasonal and community service workers. Responsible for maintaining records on personnel and work performed. Participates in all facets of work under charge. Position inspects work during and upon completion for adherence to objectives and work orders.
High School or GED Certification required.
Will consider a combination of education and experience equivalent to three years of experience in athletic field maintenance and two years supervisory experience.
Valid Texas Driver License. Ability to obtain a pesticide applicator license through the Texas Department of Agriculture within one year of employment.
Position requires that City approved safety shoes be worn.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Good knowledge of rules and regulations of all types of sporting events. Accurate knowledge of proper dimensions, line markings, and other physical aspects of the playing fields. General knowledge of park maintenance techniques. Ability to supervise others in repair and maintenance of parks playing fields. Ability to make proper judgments and recommendations on costs of repairs, replacement, and renovation of athletic field facilities. Ability to deal effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions. Ability to read, write, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Duties: Supervise crews of equipment operators, parks workers, seasonal workers and community service workers.
Develops project lists on a weekly and seasonal basis.
Supervises and participates in the daily maintenance of department equipment, supplies and grounds.
Train employees on proper use of equipment.
Conducts inspections of assigned areas.
Assist Assistant Director in preparation of the annual budget.
Prepares department reports.
Provides a good, safe working environment.
Inspects work during and upon completion for adherence to work orders and objectives.
Supervises and participates in all facets of work under charge.
Assists in the coordination of special events.
May act as Assistant Director of Parks in their absence.
On call during the weekend as assigned or required for emergency situations.
Develops a working relationship with Athletic Associations.
Performs repairs, maintenance, and major renovations of baseball, softball, football and soccer fields.
Makes recommendations for major renovations of playing fields.
Instructs crew members on proper dimensions and maintenance of baselines, pitcher’s mounds, home plates, and other field preparation activities.
Makes recommendations on usability of fields for activities.
Makes minor repairs and adjustments to sprinkler systems.
Performs other duties as assigned.
