Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Bob Derrington Plant Supervisor and in conjunction with the Water Treatment Plant Supervisor, direct the day-to-day activities of Maintenance Technicians and Utility Workers to perform maintenance and repair at the Derrington Water Reclamation Plant, Water Plant and offsite facilities. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Available for 24-hour call.

Education
High school diploma or GED certification

Experience
Five years of comprehensive experience in the maintenance of equipment found in water and wastewater plants, including a preventive maintenance program. Some supervisory experience preferred.

Certification
Valid Texas A-CDL Driver License.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to read, write, understand and follow oral and written instructions. Thorough knowledge of and ability to follow safety procedures and be able to use safety equipment, including self contained breathing apparatus. Ability to deal effectively with coworkers and supervisors. Possess a good working knowledge of equipment found in the City’s water and wastewater plants or similar operations. Be physically able to perform laboring tasks under varying weather conditions. Possess knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic controls. Knowledge and skill in trouble-shooting and repair in various mechanical components found in water and wastewater plants, including pumps, gear boxes, piping, chemical feeders and injection systems. Possess skill in the use of standard hand and power tools used in the repair and construction of plant equipment. Ability to read and interpret construction plans.

Duties: Coordinate all plant maintenance activities with the Derrington Plant Supervisor, Water Plant Supervisor and Chief Operators.
Assign work and schedule maintenance crews at various plant and offsite work locations according to prioritized needs.
Train maintenance personnel as needed.
Work within and ensure that maintenance personnel work within City and departmental guidelines, policies and procedures, including safety policies.
Assist in the development and performance of preventive maintenance programs.
Maintain a computerized work order system for maintenance activities. Generate work orders and enter or oversee entry of completed work orders.
Respond to emergency situations.
Assist maintenance personnel as needed.
Report progress of maintenance activities to Derrington Plant and Water Plant Supervisors.
Ensure tools and maintenance equipment are in proper working order.
Provide information to Derrington and Water Plant Supervisors for maintenance project planning, repair or record keeping, including work order completion, report generation and acquiring materials and services information from vendors.
Participate in the development of annual O & M budget preparation with the Derrington and Water Plant Supervisors.
Participate with Plant Supervisor in periodic performance evaluations, employee counseling on job performance and disciplinary actions.
Work with and in proximity to dangerous chemicals such as chlorine gas.
Perform other duties as assigned.
