Job Summary: Perform survey work of average difficulty as a member of a survey crew making land, boundary, and construction project surveys for Public Works projects.

Qualifications: Education
Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of intermediate level mathematics courses. College level course work is desirable. Two years of experience in the operation of surveying equipment and recording field notes or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Valid Texas Driver License

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of basic practices of land, boundary, and construction surveying. Knowledge of mathematics as it applies to survey calculations. Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors, the public and City personnel. Ability to communicate in Spanish is desirable. Computer skills with knowledge of spreadsheet, database, and engineering software is desirable. Ability to work outdoors.

Duties: Under the supervision of the Survey Party Chief operate precision survey equipment such as GPS receiver, total station, theodolite, distance meter, data collector, transit, site level, and pipe locator to exacting accuracy and precision.
Able to make difficult mathematical calculations and utilize information from notes, maps, and plats to perform accurate surveys.
Maintain skills in the operation and use of hand tools such as shovels, picks, brush hooks, and hammers.
Read and interprets maps, plats blueprints, and legal documents.
Check, clean, and perform routine maintenance and adjustments on precision survey equipment.
Research city and county records for legal descriptions, dedicated easements, and other legal documents.
Prepare accurate, detailed field notes and schematic drawings of information gathered.
Performs the duties of the Survey Party Chief in his absence.
Performs other duties in support of the Engineering Division as assigned.
