Job Summary: Drives refuse truck on assigned routes servicing approximately 1500 containers per route per week. Collects trash from residential and commercial areas. Residential containers serviced twice a week. Commercial accounts serviced as required. One person operation.
Qualifications: Must currently possess a Valid TExas B-CDL Driver License.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Six months experience in operating automated equipment and routine maintenance of bobtail or tractor trailer equipment.
Possess a Valid Texas B-CDL Driver License
A driving test will be given in appropriate equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to read, write, understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to perform simple arithmetic. Skill in driving and maneuvering a large truck in tight spaces (one-person operation). Ability to perform heavy manual labor when necessary and under unfavorable weather conditions. Ability to deal with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public. Some knowledge of the operation and routine maintenance of tractor trailer and bobtail type equipment. Thorough knowledge of and ability to follow safety procedures.
Duties: Check daily work assignments such as special pickups, extra service as required, for all route trucks (side load, roll-off, and limb trucks).
Operates refuse trucks on assigned routes to collect rubbish, trash, garbage and discarded items for both residential and commercial.
Operates automated equipment, lifting and emptying containers, works in very close quarters such as fences; gas meters; water meters; low hanging wires, both electrical and cable vision.
Informs supervisor of operating condition of truck, vehicle accidents and conditions that would prevent routine service.
Answers routine inquiries and refers complaints to supervisors.
Reports violation of refuse ordinances/regulations.
Observes proper safety regulations in the field. Exercises extreme caution at all times to avoid high voltage wires, utility poles, parked vehicles, and backing out of dead end alleys into main thoroughfares or heavily traveled streets.
Performs physical labor and any other job that is required.
Works without supervision.
Check truck and equipment daily, and tell supervisor if the vehicle has any damage, tell supervisor about any corrections that you plan on doing to vehicle or equipment that is a result of damage.
Keeps simple records of work performed and equipment utilized such as vehicle problems, daily reports, problems with containers on route.
Makes minor adjustments to and assists in cleaning or servicing of equipment used.
Conducts routine safety and maintenance check of equipment before leaving yard and at the end of the day.
