Job Summary: Responds to questions/complaints/requests/filing/processing and office duties with/from owners home owners and contractors, city employees and customers regarding building inspections. Responsible for specialized clerical duties.

As a clerk in the Building Inspection Division, exercises judgment in the performance of multiple office duties within city and departmental policies and procedures.

Qualifications: Must successfully complete the following--
Typing test with score of 45 wpm with 7 or less errors.
Ten key test with a score of 90 or better.

High school diploma or GED certification

One year clerical and office experience or equivalent related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must have a working knowledge of modern office practice and procedures. The ability to correctly utilize the telephone, radio, scanner, computer, and various office equipment. The ability to amintain confidentiality and the ability to follow and perform detailed information.

Duties: Properly greet and assist customers and city employees in person at the service counter, on the telephone, though fax information and on internet submittals with request for inspections, the processing of department permits and permit and departmental information.
Accurately receives and processes information to department files, to the customers via counter receipt, fax, and electronic transmission, and records all records and transactions in a timely manner. Assist customer with request for inspection, application for various permits, receives and correctly processes request for inspections.
Develops and types letters, information tables, reports, information, forms, documents, memoranda, and other communication materials from the telephone conversations, fax materials, email, etc., in a timely manner.
Develops and maintains sufficient working knowledge of ordinances, policies and procedures relating to the Inspection Division, in order to clearly and accurately communicate, inform and interpret ordinances and regulations related to the Building Inspection Division operations.
Operates typewriter, photocopier, computer, scanner, fax machine, radio and other office equipment.
Produces routine periodic reports according to detailed instruction.
Fills in for secretary in her absence by attending board meetings and taking minutes.
Maintain payroll record.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Approximately 70 to 80 percent of the position's times is spent with direct public contact assisting with the processing of building inspection department permits, receiving and correctly processing request for inspections and correctly dispatching inspections to the field personnel.
