Infant Mental Health Specialist

Job Summary: Provide dyadic (infant-parent psychotherapy) interventions to infants/toddlers age three and under and their parents. Provide concrete assistance, developmental guidance and advocacy for vulnerable families with very young children. Provide individualized mental health intervention services to children ages birth to 3 years and their parents/caregivers. Screen and assess infants/toddlers for mental health concerns, including trauma, social–emotional and behavioral challenges. Support parents/caregivers regarding typical emotional development and provide guidance regarding challenging behavior. Promote parent/caregiver understanding of their babies and the impact of parental behaviors on the developing parent/infant relationship. Collaborate with family, community agencies and other resources to develop strengths based intervention plans for infants/toddlers. Provide psycho-education, case management and support for families of infants and toddlers. Maintain accurate and timely documentation, electronic tracking of daily activities, and accountability expectations. Participate in team meetings, in-services and supervisory sessions as required. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Job Requirements
Education:
Masters degree in psychology, social work, or other related human services field.

Experience:
Two or more years of work experience with infants and toddlers and their families. Experience with dyadic models of treatment for very young children. Experience working with diverse communities. Experience providing concrete assistance and advocacy for the families of infants and toddlers.

Skills:
Knowledge of typical and atypical infant/toddler development. Ability to use a variety of therapeutic techniques with parent-infant dyads. Ability to assess crisis/emergency situations and intervene appropriately. Knowledge of and ability to administer early childhood assessment instruments. Knowledge of community resources. Ability to keep accurate detailed records and to comply with accountability requirements. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Self direction and ability to work collaboratively in community settings. Ability to work effectively on teams, both interagency and in the community. Conflict resolution skills. Sensitivity to needs and concerns of various cultural groups.
