Job Summary: The Cherokee National Forest will be filling a vacant GS-802-7/8/9 Engineering Technician position. This is a permanent full-time position. The position will be in North Zone Engineering located at the Watauga Ranger Station in Unicoi, Tennessee. This position will be filled from the Open Continuous Register, announcement number ADS07-R5-CVL-ENG-070809G. A referral list will be generated from the Open Continuous Register (OCR) on October 30, 2009.

Qualifications:

Duties: Assists engineers in monitoring routine contractor activities in the day-to-day performance of the contract, such as reviewing drawings prepared by support contractors. Conducts a wide range of non-standard surveys and data collection activities to provide data for civil engineering project designs. Makes field surveys and collects field data required for engineering plans such as field data for road and bridge design and production. Prepares engineering data and reports. Conducts preliminary site investigations to obtain field data on proposed structures, drainage areas, topography, and feasible layout of facilities in relation to terrain. Prepares and inputs information into a variety of electronic facilities databases. Updates and maintains maps and computerized databases. Assists in preparation of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for design modifications of conventional structures, systems, or equipment. Assists in selection and application of appropriate design criteria, standards, and formulas and assists in determination of loads, sizes, controls, materials, locations, design details, and clearances.
