Job Summary: The New Mexico Department of Health is seeking a full-time Southern New Mexico Nutrition Community Organizer.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
A Bachelor’s Degree in public health, nutrition, health promotion, communications, or liberal arts and a minimum of five years experience in planning, developing and implementing state and/or local community nutrition, physical activity, and/or health programs are required. A Masters degree can substitute for experience on a year per year basis.

Qualifications:
Knowledge and/or experience in working with state and local organizations to build consistent
and collaborative efforts across programs. Knowledge and/or experience in building state and local partnerships and coalitions. Knowledge and/or experience in managing contracts with state and local groups. Ability to interact with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational and professional backgrounds and with persons of all ages and lifestyle preferences. Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally along with skills in public presentations/speaking, and have strong organizational and coordinating skills.

Duties: Assist in the overall implementation of Healthy Kids New Mexico – a DOH-led program that works to create environments and polices that motivate children to make healthy food choices, move more and achieve healthy weights. This position is responsible for the coordination of all nutrition and physical activity efforts occurring in the southern half of New Mexico (defined by public health regional offices). Responsibilities include: 1)assist program manager build collaborative efforts, policies, and consistent messages across DOH programs and other public and private interventions supporting healthy eating and active lifestyles; 2)promote and support efforts to create healthy environments that improve nutrition, increase physical activity, decrease screen time, decrease sweetened beverage consumption, and increase breastfeeding; 3)assist public health regional offices implement Healthy Kids Las Cruces and Healthy Kids Chaves County; 4)assist program manager monitor efforts undertaken by local organizations awarded a Healthy Kids New Mexico mini-grant; 5)assist program manager develop and monitor contractual scopes of work and budget for southern NM efforts; 6)assist program manager prepare necessary progress and evaluation reports to CDC, NM DOH, and other state partners; and 7) support all program objectives.
