Eastern New Mexico University

Charles Britton

Major: Theatre/digital cinema arts
Hometown: Portales, N.M.

Senior theatre major Charles Britton’s latest role at Eastern is as a student regent.

The former Student Senate member’s previous credits include playing intramural sports and the villain in Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap.”

Charles, a Portales High School graduate, chose his hometown university because of the opportunities for acting and directing experience. He knew that he could pursue his interest in broadcasting at KENW, the public television station on campus.

That experience helped him land a coveted summer stock theatre spot with the College Light Opera Company in Falmouth, Mass.

After adding a second major in ENMU’s new digital cinema arts program, Charles is prepared for full days and late nights. It’s all part of his plan.

“With a major in digital cinema arts, I’ll have more career opportunities. Lots of theatre majors cross over into commercial television, so I’ll have the training to do both,” he says. “The film industry is booming in New Mexico, so I won’t even have to leave the state to use my degree.”

Another plus was the affordable cost of his education. Thanks to scholarships, he will graduate debt free. “It's really cost-effective for me and my family. I like the campus size, and the department I joined is the best in the state.”
