Beginning Out-of-State Freshmen Scholarships

Application priority deadline is Aug. 1 for fall and Jan. 3 for spring. Fill out an application to be considered for these scholarships. (The Texas 135-Mile Tuition Waiver does not require an application.)

Freshman Academic Scholarship
Amount: $200-$3,000 per academic year
Requirements:
  • Minimum score of 20 on ACT or 940 on SAT (national test)
Continuation:
  • Students with ACT scores of 20-21 or SAT scores of 940-1019 may receive the scholarship for the fall and spring semesters of the freshman year if they complete 15 hours each semester with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Students with ACT scores of 22 and above or SAT scores of 1020 and above may renew for a total of eight consecutive semesters if the following requirements are met: First year (fall/spring semesters): Complete 15 hours per semester with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Second and subsequent years: Complete 15 hours per semester with a minimum 3.2 GPA. The first semesters GPA is based on your first semester at Eastern. Thereafter, your cumulative GPA (all semesters including dual/concurrent enrollment and other schools) will be used to determine scholarship continuation.
  • Students may take 3 of the 15 hours required for continuation from the Roswell or Ruidoso campus with the remaining hours taken from the Portales campus.
 
Competitive Waiver
Amount: Waives the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition.
Requirements:
  • 3.0 cumulative high school GPA and a 23 ACT or 1060 SAT score (national test) or
  • 3.5 cumulative high school GPA and a 20 ACT or 940 SAT score (national test)
Continuation:
  • Maintain 2.5 cumulative GPA, and must successfully complete 12 hours each semester at ENMU-Portales. The first semesters GPA is based on your first semester at Eastern. Thereafter, your cumulative GPA (all semesters including dual/concurrent enrollment and other schools) will be used to determine scholarship continuation. May be renewed up to eight semesters or receipt of degree.
Note: Students may take 3 of the 12 hours required for continuation from the Roswell or Ruidoso campus with the remaining hours taken from the Portales campus.
 
Colorado Scholar Tuition Waiver
Amount: Waives the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition
Requirements:
  • Colorado resident
  • 2.5 cumulative GPA and 20 ACT or 940 SAT score (national test)
Continuation:
  • Maintain 2.5 cumulative GPA, and must successfully complete 12 hours each semester at ENMU-Portales. The first semesters GPA is based on your first semester at Eastern. Thereafter, your cumulative GPA (all semesters including dual/concurrent enrollment and other schools) will be used to determine scholarship continuation. May be renewed up to eight semesters or receipt of degree.

Texas 135-Mile Tuition Waiver
Amount: Waives the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition
Requirements:
  • Texas residents living within 135-miles of ENMU-Portales.
Continuation:
  • Renewal is automatic up to eight semesters or receipt of degree.
Note: No application is required.
 
Western Undergraduate Exchange
Amount: Reduced out-of-state tuition rate (student will pay 150 percent of the in-state rate)
Requirements:
  • Be admitted to ENMU-Portales under standard admissions criteria.
  • Must be residents of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
  • Submit supporting documentation of residency in home state or territory. Documentation includes Driver’s License or Voter Registration or Vehicle Registration all in the student’s name. If unable to provide, call the office of Enrollment Services at 575.562.2178.
