Multicultural Affairs

At ENMU, we are committed to the belief that a rich multicultural environment enhances University academic and social life. Multicultural Affairs' four student-run departments (African American Affairs, Hispanic Affairs, International Affairs and Native American Affairs) have the certainty that all students, faculty and staff can contribute and enrich the institution.

The Multicultural Center has an open-door policy and are available to help you work toward finding your success at ENMU. The staff also encourage you to join us for all Multicultural Affairs events and activities.

Multicultural Graduate Sashing Ceremony

sashing ceremony

The Multicultural Graduate Sashing Ceremony is a special moment for graduates, their families, and friends on their accomplishments. It is a time to celebrate cultural diversity, reflect on the journey, and look forward to the future. Students are sashed personally by the university's Chancellor with a Kente, Zarape, Country Sash, or Native Stole. The ceremony is planned on the last Friday of April at 6 p.m. A heavy hors d'oeuvres reception is provided before the event at 5 p.m. The theme varies every year. Graduates must have registered for Commencement and reserved the Kente, Zarape, Country Sash or Native Stole with the Multicultural Affairs Department at least a month before the event via email. Emails will be sent yearly with all the details.
