PORTALES--The Office of Communication Services at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales won the "Silver Award of Excellence" (second place) at the recent Council for the Advancement and Support of Education District IV Conference in New Orleans for its "Bond D for Education" campaign in the November 2010 General Election in New Mexico.
The campaign included articles, publications, yard signs, advertisements, specialty items, and speaking engagements and media appearances by ENMU president Steven Gamble.
Although the bond issue was defeated statewide, it passed in Roosevelt County with a 55-percent approval rating – the fourth highest in the state.
Working on the campaign, under the supervision of Ronnie Birdsong, were Janice Morrow, Wendel Sloan, Wanda Newberry, Minh Tran and Robin Haislett.
CASE IV encompasses universities in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Mexico and Texas.
Louisiana State University won first in the category and Austin Community College won third.
