Ryan Shumaker, Eastern New Mexico University's new sports information director, enjoys working with athletes and showcasing activities and awards for the Department of Athletics.
"I enjoy the day-to-day workload that allows me to interact with coaches and athletes as well as administrators that all share my passion for athletics. I also get to be the voice and promote the accomplishments of those athletes and coaches," he said.
Ryan oversees media relations and the digital presence for ENMU Athletics. He manages statistics, press releases and fills in when needed for game-day operations.
"I would like to continue to help improve the sports information department at Eastern and be a part of the overall success that is happening with the athletic department," he explained.
Ryan graduated with his bachelor's degree in health and sports science with a minor in mass communications at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. He also received his master's in adult education with an emphasis in sports administration at the same university in 2018.
"I chose my field of study because of my passion for sports, and it was the way for me to begin my career working in athletics following graduation," he said.
He was drawn to the position at Eastern for its "overall vision of the athletic department and the opportunity to work in a premier conference at the Division II level.
"My favorite thing about Eastern is the unity that everybody has and the willingness to help each other be the best we can be," he shared.
Before coming to Eastern, Ryan worked as an athletic communications assistant and assistant golf coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
He is originally from Denison, Texas. He has one younger sister who attends Tarleton State University. His mother is a regional manager for Alliance Food Group and his father the national service director for Elkay Water.
Ryan loves to hunt, hang out with family and friends and play golf. He played golf at a college level at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Some of the places he has traveled include Alaska and Honduras.
When asked about his role models, Ryan said that his parents are his biggest role models because of the leadership qualities they both possess and the hard work they have always shown to give their family the best life possible.
