Miss FirecrackerENMU Presenting ‘The Miss
Firecracker Contest’

The Eastern New Mexico University Department of Theatre and Dance is staging “The Miss Firecracker Contest” on Feb. 14-16 at 8 p.m. in the University Theatre Center on the Portales campus.

The play revolves around the subject of beauty-exterior and interior. Author Beth Henly examines the characters’ individual search for dignity. The play focuses on individual interpretations of beauty-stressing that beauty also dwells below the skin.

Faculty Jazz Players to Perform

Eastern New Mexico University's faculty jazz players will perform on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. in Ground Zero in the Campus Union Building. The performance is free and open to the public. The performance will also be a live multi-track recording.

“Jazz is a music that has a tendency to move people,” Chris Beaty, assistant professor of music, said. The performance will cover music from the 30’s and 40’s, such as swing and bee-bop to current contemporary sound. [more]

Personnel Briefs

Mary Drabbs and graduate student Floyd White are working with the Clovis Fire Department in designing a fitness program. Dr. Drabbs and Mr. White are teaching the firefighters to do self-assessments, designing initial programs, conducting workshops and training on proper workout techniques, and providing ongoing support for program changes.

Dr. Michael F. Shaughnessy and Dr. Henry Roediger III of Purdue University have a collaborative effort accepted for inclusion in an upcoming issue of the Educational Psychology Review.
